Expedito is one of the pioneer artists of postindependence Africa. He is an exceptionally talented and innovative artist, sculptor, designer and builder. Born in Uganda in 1952, Expedito graduated from Makerere University in Kampala in 1975. Most notable among his works, his exquisite collection of 18 carved wooden panels commissioned by the Nairobi Serena more than 20 years ago for its unique Bambara Lounge. This was followed by another exquisite collection of carved panels in the Bambara Lounge at the Kampala Serena Hotel more than 20 years later. His intricate wooden panels are multilayered and 3-dimentional, yet not sculpture in the traditional sense.
