Reredos of Strathmore University Chapel

Michael Angelo Mbwele and Brigid Marlin

Location: Chapel, Phase one.

Michael Angelo received his art training from his famous father, the late Expedito Mwebe Kibulla, an acclaimed pioneer East African Artist. Expedito nurtured his son’s talents from an early age and engaged him in many of his commissioned and private art works. Born in 1982 in Nairobi, Michael Angelo went to St. Mary’s then the Rudolph Steiner School. While working with his father, he has done everything from interior design and furniture to painting and sculpture. He was the artist who started the reredos but, as Dr. Olga Emily Marlin explain in “To Africa with a Dream” he left the the job unfinished (most of the work is his) and Brigid Marlin came to Kenya to finish his work, and add the rest.  She recruited one of the students who posed for the feet of our Lord in the Agony of the Garden scene.

Brigid Marlin is an American artist based in Hertfordshire, UK. She studied in Dublin, Montreal, New York, Paris and Vienna where, under the guidance of the Austrian artist Ernst Fuchs, she learned the oil and egg tempera technique of the Flemish and Italian Renaissance painters Jan van Eyck and Giovanni Bellini.
